60 Minutes and George Piro End ‘Bush Lied’ Nonsense

I know it will never be enough for the liberal ideologues and the purely partisan politicians, but I hope the 60 Minutes interview and the follow-up articles on Saddam’s interviewer will end the “Bush Lied” nonsense – at least among those political opponents of Bush’s who are fair-minded.

Mr. Piro, an FBI agent assigned to question Saddam over many months, revealed that Saddam deliberately foisted on the world the deception that he had many kinds of weapons of mass destruction - chemical, biological and nuclear. This deception took many forms and was carried out because Saddam feared most an attack from Iran, and he thought it was the only thing that would prevent that from happening.

He (Saddam) also told the interviewer that, although he had dismantled his WMD program, he had left in place equipment, scientists and programs so that he could reconstitute his WMD when the world lost interest, and that he intended to do just that.

Another important point we learned from Saddam via Piro was that Saddam expected only a short-lived air attack from the United States, because of the many times the U.S. had, in the past, responded in this manner regardless of the provocation. He was the most surprised man on the planet when the U.S. actually moved troops into Iraq and went after him.

Mystery of the WMDs
By Laurie Mylroie
1/29/2008 American Spectator (Excerpt)

George Piro, a personable and handsome FBI agent, appeared on 60 Minutes Sunday to tell us Saddam Hussein's secrets. The 36-year-old Lebanese-American was Saddam's interrogator. In addition to whatever the show disclosed about Saddam, it also revealed a lot about how the U.S. media and bureaucracies have handled and stoked the controversies over Operation Iraqi Freedom (OIF) -- basically, afflicted by chronic Alzheimer's. The events relevant to understanding OIF go back nearly 18 years -- to Iraq's August 1990 invasion of Kuwait. Few people worked on Iraq all those years. Still, those doing so now ought to know that history. Neither 60 Minutes nor the FBI do.

Piro explained that when he finally asked Saddam about Iraq's weapons of mass destruction, Saddam replied that most were destroyed by U.N. inspectors (UNSCOM) and the rest were destroyed by Iraq. After their destruction, however, Saddam tricked the world into believing Iraq still had them. "That was what kept him...in power. That capability kept the Iranians away," Piro affirmed.

“The Iraqi leader had also intended to restart the weapons program and had the means to do it.”

If you don't believe that Bush lied, I suggest that you read "On the Brink" by Tyler Drumheller. Drumheller is the CIA's former chief of covert operations in Europe and a 26 year veteran of the organization. In his book he lays out chapter and verse of how the administration lied to the American people.

bud,

If you believe that Bush lied, I suggest you read Kenneth Timmerman's "Shadow Warriors", which details how officials within the State and CIA have actively worked to undermine and sabotage the Bush agenda, from day one, for partisan politics and personal agendas that have nothing to do with "telling the truth". And if that book reads too partisan for you, how about reading the Report of the Select Committee on Intelligence on Postwar Findings about Iraq’s WMD Programs and Links to Terrorism and How They Compare with Prewar Assessments, with Additional Views, pg 141-144; you'll find that Drumheller is rebuked for lying to the media.

George Tenet has also discredited Drumheller's accounts.

Wordsmith, your comment is a reminder of how Valerie Plame, not having been elected to the presidency, attempted to use her husband, Joseph Wilson, to undermine and subvert the policy of the US Government, having been determined by the only person authorized to do so, the elected president.

Russ,
You still aren't going to win on this one, because these Lefties are only going to say that George Piro is lying to cover up for President George Bush, who lied and caused people to die. And speaking about dying, here is an obituary that all you Liberals need to read and heed:

Obituary of Common Sense

My parents told me about Mr. Common Sense early in my life and told me I would do well to call on him when making decisions. It seems he was always around in my early years but less and less as time passed by. Today I read his obituary. Please join me for a moment of silence in remembrance. For Common Sense has served us all so well for so many generations.

Obituary of Common Sense:

Today we mourn the passing of a beloved old friend, Common Sense, who has been with us for many years. No one knows for sure how old he was since his birth records were long ago lost in bureaucratic red tape.

He will be remembered as having cultivated such valuable lessons as knowing when to come in out of the rain, why the early bird gets the worm, life isn't always fair, and maybe it was my fault.

Common Sense lived by simple, sound financial policies (don't spend more than you earn) and reliable parenting strategies (adults, not children are in charge).

His health began to deteriorate rapidly when well intentioned but overbearing regulations were set in place Reports of a six-year-old boy charged with seal harassment for kissing a classmate; teens suspended from school for using mouthwash after lunch; and a teacher fired for reprimanding an unruly student, only worsened his condition.

Common Sense lost ground when parents attacked teachers for doing the job they themselves failed to do in disciplining their unruly children. It declined even further when schools were required to get parental consent to administer Aspirin, sun lotion or a sticky plaster to a student; but could not inform the parents when a student became pregnant and wanted to have an abortion.

Common Sense lost the will to live as the Ten Commandments became contraband; churches became businesses; and criminals received better treatment than their victims. Common Sense took a beating when you couldn't legally defend yourself from a burglar in your own home and the burglar can sue you for assault.

Common Sense finally gave up the will to live, after a woman failed to realize that a steaming cup of coffee was hot. She spilled a little in her lap, and was promptly awarded a huge settlement.

Common Sense was preceded in death by his parents, Truth and Trust; his wife, Discretion; his daughter, Responsibility; and his son, Reason. He is survived by three stepbrothers; I Know my Rights, Someone Else is to Blame, and I'm a Victim.

Not many attended his funeral because so few realized he was gone.

All I can say to you so-called, Liberal Secular Progressives is; Stop shooting yourselves in the foot and come back down to Earth, and if you don't like things here in America, you're free to leave and go somewhere else!

You guys live in some altered universe. Timmerman is the guy who insisted that Iran was involved in the 9/11 attack. The 9/11 attackers were all Sunni Muslims and Iran a Shiite nation. It's highly unlikely that they cooperated in the attack.

Saudi Arabia was the primary backer of the attackers.
