A Deadly Prescription for Disaster

Hormesis is a marvelous word usually used to describe substances or the study of substances that kill in large doses but have beneficial effects in small doses. It is ordinarily applied to radioactive materials and toxic chemicals, but I think it also applies to illegal immigration from Latin America – mostly from Mexico.

If only a few people were illegally crossing our border each year looking for honest work, we could easily absorb them and would benefit from their labor and their diversity. With millions crossing the border each year, and with many of them being drug-smugglers, murderers and assorted criminals and terrorists, we are choking. When you add the effects of these numbers on our welfare caseloads, our criminal justice system and our “free” healthcare resources, it has become a nightmare. The nightmare grows even more serious when you see that a large number of Mexican illegals, unlike their legal counterparts from other countries, seem to want to form a fifth column that aims at annexing parts of the U.S.A. into Mexico – much as the Albanians are successfully doing in Kosovo.

The efforts of these illegals to resist assimilation is greatly aided by guilt-ridden multiculturalists who can’t seem to realize that the culture the illegals escaped to might be superior to the culture they risked so much to escape. Those of us who can’t understand why the Congress and our President can’t seem to face these problems honestly and squarely to protect our sovereignty should realize that a culture war is being played out on our southern border, and both local law enforcement officers and Border Control Agents are being caught in the middle of it.

More Americans killed by illegal aliens than Iraq war, study says

"Illegal aliens are killing more Americans than the Iraq war, says a new report from Family Security Matters that estimates some 2,158 murders are committed every year by illegal aliens in the U.S. The group says that number is more than 15 percent of all the murders reported by the Federal Bureau of Investigation in the U.S. and about three times the representation of illegal aliens in the general population.

Mike Cutler, a former senior special agent with the U.S. Immigration and Naturalization Service (the former INS), is a fellow at the Center for Immigration Studies and an advisor to Family Security Matters (FSM). He says the high number of Americans being killed by illegal aliens is just part of the collateral damage that comes with tolerating illegal immigration.

"The military actually called for the BORTAC team, ... the elite unit of the Border Patrol, to be detailed to Iraq to help to secure the Iraqi border," Cutler notes. "Now, if our military can understand that Iraq's security depends in measure on the ability to protect its border against insurgents and terrorists, then why isn't our country similarly protecting our own borders?" he asks.

"We are not five and a half years, nearly, after 9/11, and yet our borders remain open," the Center for Immigration Studies fellow observes. "We have National Guardsmen assigned on the border, but it turns out they are unarmed," he points out. "Their rules of engagement are very simple: if armed intruders head your way, run in the other direction."" OneNewsNow.com

Final note: There has been much publicity lately about the stepped-up program of border security and also enforcement action against employers. So far, this looks like an attempt to quiet objections to present policy, rather than a serious attempt to STOP illegal immigration. As long as our federal government keeps making Border Patrol Agents the fall guys, I have to believe that our policy is a confidence game being played on American citizens. I hope I’m wrong. I’m all for earned citizenship and a guest worker program – so long as a fence is built first, and illegal immigration is brought to a halt.

Nitpick: Mexico is not in South America, but North America. I think you might have meant "Latin America".

Back to topic: Build the fence. Give the Guard troops guns, and allow them to use them.

I think the employer enforment is one of the best strategies. Illegal to hire, punish the employer...eventually the available "illegal" jobs will go away, as will the illegals.....if their is no work, they won't come.
