The Incredible Smearing of Sarah Palin

Late Note: The announcement this morning that Governor Palin's daughter is pregnant and is marrying the father has taken a lot of the steam out of these smears, but they are continuing.
The world of left-wing crazies has gone completely mad since Sarah Palin was named by John McCain to become his vice presidential candidate. This move by McCain must have hit a deep chord given the reaction. Alan Colmes of Hannity and Colmes, on his website, put up the idea that Governor Palin had actually caused the Downes Syndrome malady suffered by Palin’s young son through her own negligence. Colmes later took down this slander, but not before several websites had fortunately taken screen shots of the original smear. That website entry can be seen here.

But these jackals can not get things straight. On other left-wing sites, a different story is circulating based on an examination of pictures of Palin and her teenage daughter. Based on these photographs, which show nothing, the theory has been advanced as fact that the Downes Syndrome child is actually Palin’s grandson, and the 16 year old is the real mother.

Here is a discussion of this in Townhall.com

“"Sarah Palin is NOT the Mother" is the title of this DailyKos blog that accuses Bristol, a completely fit-looking adolescent teen, of having a "baby bump" in a photo they allege was taken March 9th of this year.

"Sarah, I'm calling you a liar" wrote blogger ArcXIX. "And not even a good one. Trig Paxson Van Palin is not your son. He is your grandson. The sooner you come forward with this revelation to the public, the better. " Photos of Bristol with detailed commentary about her abdomen are contained in the post.

Not only is the DailyKos disgustingly inspecting Bristol's midriff with all the fervor of LA paparazzi examining J-Lo's or Jennifer Aniston's washboard stomachs for evidence of a "bump," the DailyKos is wrong on when the photo was taken. It was taken, and published, by the Anchorage Daily News in 2006. Baby Trig, a child with Down's Syndrome, was born on April 18, 2008. That's a long time for a teen girl to be carrying a "bump" which looks nothing more than the curve of a tight sweater.

Shortly after Palin was announced as McCain's VP, bloggers at the Kos started ginning up the rumor Palin faked her pregnancy, allegedly to cover for an illegitimate grandchild, because she looked so fit and trim in photos taken a few months before giving birth.

This is only the latest in outrageous attacks against Palin as a mother. Fox News anchor Alan Colmes, of Hannity & Colmes, titled a recent post on his blog Liberaland "Did Palin Take Proper PreNatal Care?" In it, he wondered if she somehow was at fault for having a disabled child. Colmes took down the post after being attacked by the blog Wizbang and later reposted a screenshot of the blog to prove he "wasn't running away from what I posted."” Townhall.com

On CNN, meanwhile, CNN anchor, John Roberts, actually happened to mention that Governor Palin “would not give adequate care and attention to Trig if she became vice president”.

Now, one can trace smear campaigns like this back to the “Daisy” ad run by President Johnson against Barry Goldwater, and the smear methodology was fine-tuned during the Bork and Thomas confirmation hearings to include slanders and smears of one’s personal life. But why did the selection of Sarah Palin put the Democrats right down in the gutter so fast and in such fury? The answer is clear. It is the reason for 8 years of “Selected, not Elected”. It is because they (the Democrats) are so smart and so self-righteous that they are obviously ‘entitled’ to the presidency.

They are right to be worried. The selection of Sarah Palin has so energized me, that I immediately took out my credit card and made another contribution to McCain2008. I had previously done this twice before and had not planned another contribution.

This excerpt tells it all:
Sarah Palin: conservatives find the girl of their dreams

The Alaskan governor’s family life and political views press the right’s buttons

Sarah Baxter The Sunday Times August 31, 2008 (Excerpt)

"When Sarah Palin stepped into the spotlight as John McCain’s running mate in Dayton, Ohio, and promised that women could “shatter that glass ceiling once and for all”, it was an electrifying moment in a presidential election that had already produced its share of upsets and surprises.

History was on the march again the morning after Barack Obama became the first African-American to accept his party’s White House nomination. After the fireworks, the 80,000-strong crowd who had cheered Obama to the skies at the Mile High stadium in Denver woke up with a hangover.

“We may be seeing the first woman president. As a Democrat, I am reeling,” said Camille Paglia, the cultural critic. “That was the best political speech I have ever seen delivered by an American woman politician. Palin is as tough as nails.”"

On a left-wing forum that I often visit and sometimes post, the lefties' response to the Swift-Boating of their slanders was to say, "well, you right-wingers deserve this for all your slanders". This is what they are reduced to.

This is going to be fun. History will be made, one way or another, and it looks more likely now that it will be the right history.

Even more Hillary supporters will go for McCain now. Obama is no longer a near certainty. Heaven forbid something happens to McCain, but I believe Palin would rise to the occasion. She has the right attitude. Everyone knows Obama is NOT ready for POTUS, Palin is only for the VP. Look at Dan Quayle.

YEY SARAH PALIN! YEY John McCain! Great pick! The 1st woman for the GOP VP? SCORE!

Sarah Palin gave birth to a baby with Down's Syndrome at the age of 44.

Is anyone else appalled at this?

The risk of giving birth to a baby with Down's Syndrome is extremely high in women over 40 (and even higher when the father is also over 40).
http://www.webmd.com/infertility-and-reproduction/news/20030701/dad-age-down-syndrome

Sarah Palin "opposes the use of birth control pills and condoms even among married couples".

I am disgusted by this irresponsible behaviour. To give birth at age 44 to a baby with Down's because you refuse to use birth control inexcusable. Ignoring the dangers that you expose yourself and your baby to by refusing to use birth control after 40 is negligent and careless. To believe that a woman like this has the opportunity to become Vice President of the United States of America in 2008 makes me ill.

Does anyone else share this opinion?

No, frogcatcher. Most of us know something about life and have a heart.

A woman with four children who become pregant after the age of forty is irresponsible. The chances of having a Down's Syndrome baby for a woman over the age of forty is six times greater than for a woman under the age of 35.

Palin was a great pick.

...and I agree with Obama on one issue - family is off limits. Review and rate the CANDIDATE and the issues.

I wonder the political price that Joe L will pay for support (and RNC speech) of longtime Repub friend McCain

What Obama says is one thing; what he did to Clinton is another. There is no way that I can believe that Obama is not behind some of these smear attacks.

Since when did 35 become the last year a woman should give birth? Since when is it horrible to bring a child - ANY child - into this world? Do you people not believe in our medical community? Do you even know that Down syndrome is actually being treated? Stanford University has one of the premier Down syndrome research facilities in the nation. There's a mother in Sugarland, TX that has created a protocol using Stanford's research. In 6 months the children's IQ's rose as much as 20% - INCREDIBLE! You can review at www.changingmindsfoundation.com. DS should not be a death sentence!!
