Murtha Undercuts Pelosi and Reid

One of President Bush's most vocal critics of the Iraq War has changed his mind. Can this bring some reason to the activities of the Democratic Congress and end its continuing attempts to undermine the troops there?

Murtha finds military progress in trip to Iraq

Warns that Iraqis must do more for their own security

By Jerome L. Sherman, Pittsburgh Post-Gazette

WASHINGTON - U.S. Rep. John Murtha today said he saw signs of military progress during a brief trip to Iraq last week, but he warned that Iraqis need to play a larger role in providing their own security and the Bush administration still must develop an exit strategy.

"I think the 'surge' is working," the Democrat said in a videoconference from his Johnstown office, describing the president's decision to commit more than 20,000 additional combat troops this year. But the Iraqis "have got to take care of themselves."

Violence has dropped significantly in recent months, but Mr. Murtha said he was most encouraged by changes in the once-volatile Anbar province, where locals have started working closely with U.S. forces to isolate insurgents linked to Al Qaeda.

He said Iraqis need to duplicate that success at the national level, but the central government in Baghdad is "dysfunctional."

Mr. Murtha's four day-trip took him to a Thanksgiving dinner with troops in Kuwait last Thursday, and he then made stops in Iraq, Turkey and Belgium.

So Jack the "Lion Heart" Murtha says the surge is working, Hu? Well Duh!!! Are his cowardly rantings and ravings starting to get old, or did the wind just suddenly change? I wonder if anyone sat next to him at the Thanksgiving table, as if one turkey wasn't enough at the table! So all of a sudden, this "weekend warrior" is supposed to be some kind of an authority on how to fight the war on terrorism? We all know how not to fight the war, don't we. It's certainly not going to be won by appeasers, or yellow cut-and-run cowards like he, Kerry, Reid and Pelosi. I've e-mailed these political hacks many times and shared with them these same sentiments, and do you know what? It just rolls right off their backs. They have no conscience, and no shame. It's like when they are caught in a lie. They stick to their guns,--er-I shouldn't mention guns! That's politically incorrect speech among Liberals. Guns, God, Abortion, and church. I must bite my tongue!

When a Democrat points out that things are going badly in Iraq, you morons accuse him of wanting the US to lose. When he sees progress, you attack him for that too. Accusing retired marine colonel Jack Murtha of cowardice puts you in a category with the "Swift Boat Veterans for Truth". You and they have no regard for the truth. You're all invective and bluster with no substance. Are you another chicken-hawk shirker like Wilcox?

There is no doubt that violence is down by nearly all measures. Unfortunately, part of this success came not from the surge but from the segregation. But there has been polical success in getting both Shiite and Sunni leaders to change their stance.
