Go Negative Young Man

Both John McCain and Mitt Romney fought principled campaigns in which they implored their followers to stay positive, and stay on the high ground. They were afraid of being called, “racists”.

With this and $1.50 you can get a cup of coffee.

We are now seeing all kinds of analyses of why Romney lost. It is very simple. Negative campaigning works. Too bad. Obama won versus both men by sliming them in every way he and his operatives could think of, and by dividing Americans and urging them to blame their problems on the people who invest and provide jobs.

We have lost America; by that I mean that respect for all the values that made America great have been lost. Combat soldiers, even Americans, soon learn that the only thing that matters is to stay alive and win – even if you have to fight dirty. Isn’t America worth fighting dirty for?

We should have gone negative too; not just a few bloggers and low-level operatives, but from the top down. This is where we are being beaten. Certainly we had the material:

Obama is incompetent.
Obama is a liar.
Obama is a racist.
Obama has hidden and camouflaged his past.
Obama has hidden and camouflaged his associates.
Obama has hidden and camouflaged his philosophy.
Obama is a closet Muslim.
Obama is the first president to turn his back on Americans under fire when he could have saved them.

We didn’t even have to lie to go negative.

Next time let’s make sure our standard bearer is willing to get down in the muck with the Democrats and fight with every weapon at hand.

Yes, I agree. I believe the Republicans should look for a candidate from Chicago. They don't get any dirtier than a Chicago politician. I also think the Republicans should definitely try to run a minority candidate (either black or Hispanic). It would make the Dems racist attacks null and void (well, almost). The Dems ran the most ficious campaign ever and it worked. That's the only explanation for such a poor Pres.Obama winning. His four years made Jimmy Carter look good.

PS The word verification is terrible. I could not decifer what the hell the letters were. Could you make if easier for those of us who are sight challenged?? I tried sixteen times. That's a little much.

I apologize for the word verification. I know it's terrible. My problem is that when I don't use it, I start getting 20-50 blog-spams a day. What I'll do is use verification for a while and then stop for a while.

i believe the under reported story is the vote-cheating enabled by no ID laws Holder managed to get through. 750 students went to a coastal Maine town from Mass, as witnessed by a friend of mine, when she went to vote. Many Mass students were also seen voting in NH. It has been reported that in Allan West's Florida town 146% of voters turned out. He is the only one who is refusing to give up. We should somehow support him.
Also a Mitt Romney never had a chance with the media in Obama's pocket. We need a regular news channel(non-cable) where a fox type news is delivered for folks who don't have cable. Sharon

I disagree. BOTH Obama and Romney went negative, but Obama's team did a better job. They also had a calculated approach to go after and undermine Romney's "strengths" early and that paid off. They also got out the vote far more effectively than the Romney/republican campaign. The fact is that Romney's campaign blew it.
Also, we lost even more of the Hispanic and women vote. we cannot afford that. We need to find a way to resolve immigration soas to not lose all the hispanic vote. We need to find a way to talk about women's right to choice (contraception) without talking (and linking to)abortion (and reduced women's rights)

Steve, since you live in a solidly blue state like Massachusetts, you did not see the ads being run in states like Florida.

And my point remains, Romney blew it. He lost the messaging campaign nearly every week except maybe the two weeks following the first turnaround...breakout opportunity debate. And we need to fix the immigration issue message and the women's issues message - regardless of negative ads. Neg-ads are part of life now.
